Sixteen TCAM swimmers raced at the recent Oakdale Invitational meet held at Oakdale High School on June 17. TCAM had the largest team representation amongst the seven masters teams competing.
With fast times and very strong swims, the TCAM swimmers captured 54 first time finishes. All sixteen swimmers finished in the top three in all of their events.
Placing first in all of their events were Toni Wivell, 80, Susan White, 75, Connie Birdsall, 71, Carole Sears, 70, Larry Carter, 68, Karen Kessel, 67, Mary Welsh, 63, Susan Loyd, 57 and Angel Woodall, 42.
Paul McIlroy, 51 continued to rewrite the team record books in the 50-54 age division. He set five new records in both sprint and distance events. His records were in the 50 fly, 200 back, 200 breast, 200 IM and the 500 free. He swam the 500 free for the first time in competition.
With her first meet in the 75-79 age group, Susan White, 75 set four new records. Her records were in the 50 and 100 fly, plus the 100 and 200 back.
Setting three best times were Martha Buthman, 64, Karen Kessel, 67, and Penny Methot, 61. Buthmann and Methot were competing in only their second meet. Buthmann dropped 15 seconds under her previous best in the 100 free.
Chuck Spillner, 69 swimming in his third meet, set two new bests. Single personal bests were recorded by Susan Loyd, 57 and Larry Carter, 68.
Fast individual swims were recorded by Gary Johnson, 66, Laurie Perry, 63, and Suki Spillner, 58. Suki Spillner swam 100 yard events for the first time.
The TCA team relays finished in the top three places in their eight relays. The highlight of the meet was the final relay event which required swimming with t-shirts.
