Winter weather seems to be very sporadic this year, so we have had many spring like days which are definitely perfect for swimming.  Make a commitment to swim on a regular basis, you will feel so much better.  Join your swimming friends.  See you at the pool.

Our 3rd annual TCAM Big Blue Challenge will begin in March.  As a reminder, the Big Blue Challenge features a single event each week.  The primary goal is for everyone to become more aware of swimming times in all of the strokes and to become more familiar with using the pace clocks.

As part of the workout on Monday and Wednesday, everyone will be swimming the weekly event.  You will be responsible for getting your time.  The coaches will be recording your time.  We will progress through each of the strokes, free, back, breast and fly, swimming the 50, 100 and 200 distances plus the 100 and 200 IM.   If you are unable to swim a particular stroke due to injury, you can opt to swim a different non-free stroke.  For example, if you cannot do fly, you can swim the back or breast.  Just be sure to let the coach know which stroke you did swim.

TCAM swimmers can enter the TCAM Big Blue Challenge by filling out the entry form and returning the form plus a $5.00, CASH ONLY, entry fee.  The entry fee deadline is WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 21.  Late entries will not be accepted this year.  The entry fee will be donated to a local charity.

If you miss a week, you can do your swim as a makeup on a different week or on the weekend.  Makeup times should be submitted to the coaches on a full sheet of paper.  Swimmers are also required to do one distance swim which can be either the 500, 1000 or 1650 free or the 400 IM.  The distance swims completed in January can be submitted.  Distance swims will need to be done on the weekend at the lap swim on Sunday.

To win your awesome prize at the end of the challenge, you must first fill out the result sheet completely and turn it into the coaches by the deadline date which will be announced.  Result sheets will not be accepted without times for each event (substitute events and times are acceptable).  Binders with recorded times will be available on the deck at the end of the challenge for swimmers to check their times.


This year I have decided to focus on more one day events for our group.  Hopefully, one day meets will encourage more swimmers to take the plunge and join the team at a meet.  Relays are always fun!

  • Sunday, March 25 – Cal Aquatic Masters Meet, UCBerkeley Aquatic Center
  • Sunday,  May 20 – Bay Area Senior Games, Rinconada pool, Palo Alto, open to swimmers over age 50
  • June 29-July 1 – Pacific Masters Long Course Meet, San Jose, unsure about this meet, I  may select one day to attend as a team
  • Saturday, August 11 – Davis Meet, Woodland Aquatic Center
  • SATURDAY, AUGUST 18 – PINECREST SWIM, please note the earlier date
  • October 1214 – Pacific Masters Short Course Meters Meet, Walnut Creek, I will select one day to attend as a team

Oakdale is planning to host a meet during the summer, but the date is not available yet


If you like wide open spaces, cooler water, and no pace clock, open water swims might be just the events for you.  We have a dedicated group of TCAM swimmers who travel to all of the Pacific Masters open water swims and they would love to have more TCAM swimmers join them.  Check out the schedule on the Pacific Masters website.  Do not forget our PINECREST swim on August 18.


I am still searching for a replacement for our blue fins.  In the meantime, you are welcome to use the fins from the bins.  Remember, it only takes a second longer to return the fins to the correct bin.


As a reminder, gum and bandaids are not allowed on the pool deck.

We do miss our swimmers when you are absent from workouts for even a few days.  Let the coaches know if you are going to be absent for vacation or surgeries.  If you are ill for an extended period of time, you can email me.
